#6 Play Big– rallied from 5th to get the score two lengths back while coming off a 3 month layoff. He then raced 5 wide and missed by less than two at this same level last out while finishing second to a repeat winner. He catches a similar field and is the one to beat.

Every year, Belmont Park hosts the third jewel of the Triple Crown; the prestigious site where American Pharoah made history by winning the 2015 Belmont Stakes, becoming the 12th Triple Crown champion in the history of the sport. The Triple Crown is one of the most important series in horse racing and consists of three races: the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and ends off with the grueling Belmont Stakes – where all the action culminates.

August Belmont Jr. was a highly influential New Yorker in the 19th century with a passion for thoroughbred racing. He founded the Westchester Racing Association in 1895, and built Belmont Park 10 years later. He worked hard to rescue the sport he loved and has been accredited with saving thoroughbred racing on the east coast by financing the first Belmont Stakes in 1867 at Jerome Park Racetrack.

Today, Belmont Park is owned by the state of New York but the same sense of tradition remains. The old facility was torn down in 1963, and Arthur Froehlich was commissioned to design the new grandstand – worth $30.7 million in 1968.

Belmont Park is open from May to July and again from late September to late October. The Belmont Stakes is run on a 1 1/2 mile dirt track and offers up a purse of $1,500,000. Belmont Park hosts many other graded stakes events including the $1,000,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup and the $600,000 Man O’ War Stakes.
