Saratoga Thoroughbred

I Play Exacta Boxes

In races with 3 selections the total cost will be $6 for a $1 bet In races with 4 selections the total cost will be $12 for a $1 bet

The Win Candidates are in order from our top pick to our fourth (or third).

However, we root for the two biggest prices to run 1st and 2nd as it helps our payoffs in our exacta boxes. It does not matter to me if it is our top pick or our fourth- I am trying to make money!

If you have any questions just let me know,

Tom – support@battagliaspicks.com

A. P. Smithwick Memorial Steeplechase S. 2 1/16 Miles | Open | 4 Year Olds And Up | G1 STAKES | Purse: $150,000 Exacta, Trifecta (.50), Super (.10), Pick 3 Races (1-3), Double Wagers

  • # PP ODDS Horse Jockey Weight Trainer Claim $ Med.
  • 1 1 ML 15-1 Chief Justice (GB) B. Foley 146 Lbs C. Murphy
  • 2 2 ML 5-1 Down Royal B. Dalton 141 Lbs K. Dalton
  • 3 3 ML 8-5 Pistol Whipped (IRE) N. DeBoinville 158 Lbs L. Young

  • 7 7 ML 7-2 Iranistan J. Doyle 152 Lbs K. Brion

Selections 4-3-7-5 Rating ⭐⭐

Trainer Keri Brion and three of the seven in here and she won both of the grade I steeplechases here last year.

#4 Historic Heart-Keri’s go to rider Hendriks had his choice of her three entries and chose this 5 year old who had won two of three with a half a length loss in second in between before being eased last out while trying to go 3 miles and carrying 158 lbs.

#3 Pistol Whipped-speedy 8 year old should be on or near the early lead. He finished second last out going 3 miles and this cut back in distance will help his chances.

#7 Iranistan-won two in a row before having a troubled race last out and was eased. He is also from the Brion barn and a return to form would put him right in the mix from the start.

#5 French Light-finished second in this same stake last year. He likes this course and will be a good price. If I had a nickel for every time a trainer, who had more than one starter in a race, won the race with the bigger price well I would have a lot of nickels.

  • 7 7 ML 15-1 Infringement H. Harkie 122 Lbs R. Persaud $25,000 L

Selections 3-4-1 Rating ⭐⭐

#3 Holiday Jazz-showed little in her debut then came off a 5 month layoff and drew off to win by 9 while being claimed away for a horrible trainer who has won with only 2 of his 38 starters this year and this was one of them. New trainer has hit with 10 of his 39 starters on the year for a nice 29%. He ran this filly over her head in three straight and this drop down to 25k non winners of two and the addition of blinkers makes her the one to beat and we should get a good price.

#4 Mariah’s Fortune-runs for trainer Cox who has hit with 3 of his 8 runners here for 38%. This filly is another who is dropping in class and is the one to beat.

#1 Evoking-went wire to wire and won by 4 in her debut last out but that was on May 29th 2021. She runs for sharp 26% winning trainer and two good works over the track and gets I.Ortiz.

  • 10 M ML 8-1 Ace Up Her Sleeve . Rider TBA 119 Lbs S. Klesaris $40,000 FTL

Selections 7-8-5-1 Rating ⭐⭐

#7 Izeamalibumoon-ran a good race in her debut last out to finish 3rd beaten just half a length after being bumped at the start. She shows a fast bullet work since beating 81 others, needed her debut, drops from MSW to 40k and takes on softer New York breds.

#8 Gracefully Wild-has finished second in three straight some coming off a 15 month layoff while improving in all three. She will be a nice price and could help our payoffs.

#5 Aunt Virginia-from the same barn as our top pick. This filly ran well in her debut finishing second beaten just a neck and should be in the payoffs.

#1 Chiara-has improved in both of her starts since switching to the turf and coming off a two month layoff. She gets a rider upgrade to Saze and could run into the payoffs at a big price.

Selections 1-2-6 Rating ⭐⭐

#1 Out of Sight-trainer David Donk has really turned things around. He is coming off his best ever Belmont meet and has won 2 of 8 with a third here at Saratoga so far. This filly won two in a row before finishing third last out beaten 4 ¾ lengths. She will show speed from the inside and this cut back in distance will help her chances.

#2 Sweet Fanny Lu-rallied to get the money two back then clipped heels and collided with another runner last out so will throw that one out. She keeps Gomez and looks to rebound at a price.

#6 Instinctive-is another who ran into trouble in the same race our second pick exits (our top pick exits the same race but had a clean trip). This one has been in the money in 10 of her last 15 and looks for another in the money finish today.

  • 9 9 ML 15-1 Our Rosie Diamonds J. Castellano 119 Lbs A. Chichakly

Selections 2-4-3-1 Rating ⭐⭐

#2 U Glow Girl-first timer from the Cox barn is working well at Keeneland. The sire Girvin had a 4-3 record from his 10 starts with over 1.6 million in earnings and has had 9 two year olds start and 4 of them won their debut.

#4 Whatchamacall-is one of only 3 in here with a start. This filly showed speed and finished 3rd while chasing a 6 length winner. He switches to the Camejo barn who is hitting at 35% with his new runners in their first start.

#3 Numero Seis-broke slow in her debut but came running while racing wide and finished 3rd beaten just 2 ½ lengths in a very good effort. Trainer Sharp is hitting at 22% with his maidens in their second start and this one gets a rider upgrade to Saez.

#1 Callie’s Passion– from the same barn as our third pick. This first timer is working well and could be in the payoffs at first asking.

Selections 2-6-5 Rating ⭐

#2 Copper Town-another trainer who is coming off his best ever meet. He claimed this one last out for 32k while this 8 year old was missing by just a head. Trainer is hitting at 22% with his claims in their first start and I.Ortiz rides him for the third straight time.

#6 Happy Farm-8 year old is full of heart with a 11-10-3 record from his 32 starts with over 664k in earning. He runs as hard as he can every time and is always the one to beat at this level.

#5 Aristocratic– finished two lengths behind our second pick last out and was claimed. New trainer is hitting at 27% with his claims in their first start and this gelding has been in the money in all three of his starts over this track.

Selections 3-9-2-4 Rating ⭐⭐

#3 Hey There-missed by only 4 in her debut to winner Chardy Party who came back and made it two for two in her next start. This filly rallied from 7th in her second start to finish second then made the lead last out but got nailed late and missed by a head. She cuts back in distance and today looks like graduation day.

#9 Libretto-has only missed by about two lengths in all three of her starts while going long on the turf. She cuts back to a sprint, shows fast works over the course here including a bullet work beating 32 others and should be a good price.

#2 Crowding Out-230k filly from the Brown barn has run well in all three of her career starts. She keeps I.Ortiz and should be close from the start.

#4 Bali Dove-came off a year layoff and disappointed at 3-5 while finishing second. She needed that one and should improve.

Selections 2-9-1-6 Rating ⭐⭐

#2 Smash Ticket-came off a 9 month layoff last out and drew off to win by 11 lengths. She switches to the Atras barn who is hitting at 24% with his new runners in their first start and he looks to add to that with this filly.

#9 Mischievous Diane-finished second in back to back to begin her career and has since won back to back including last out while coming off a 6 month layoff and going wire to wire on the inside on a day when the outside was the place to be. She is improving and is the one to beat.

#1 The Diodoro/Gargan entry– #1 Short Summer Dress-has won two of her four starts this year and was claimed two back by Diodoro. She has the speed to close from the start and could hang on for a piece. #1A Piece of My Heart-runs for 22% winning trainer Gargan. She is coming off a two month layoff but is working well and could run into the payoffs.

#6 Betsy Blue-has three seconds and a third from her four starts over the track. She is coming off her best effort to date and could help our payoffs.

Selections 5-1-4-3 Rating ⭐⭐⭐

#5 She’s a Mia-showed little in her debut while racing on the dirt at Belmont then switched to the turf and got the money in her second start. She took on open company stake runners on the turf at Aqueduct and missed by just ¾ of a length in second. She is now coming off back to back seconds after coming off a 6 month layoff. She is making her third start back today and should be ready for her best.

#1 Solib-finished just 2 lengths behind our top pick when then faced each other in the Tepin at Aqueduct. Trainer sharp claimed this one last out for 50k and moves her up in class- a positive sign.

#4 Classic Lynne– from the same barn as our second pick. This filly missed by just a length in her debut while racing on the turf then switched back to the turf for her third career start and drew off to win by 3. We can throw out her last race while racing on a sloppy track at Belmont. She is coming off a layoff but trainer is hitting at 35% with his runners coming off a break and this one get her chance on the turf today.

#3 Lisa’s Vision-missed by just ¾ in her debut then drew off to win by 3 last out. She has speed and could be in the payoffs.

Selections 3-6-2-4 Rating ⭐⭐

#3 Super Quality-came off a two month layoff last out, switched to the turf for the first time and ran his best race to date to finish second beaten just a length and ¾. This 300k colt is bred to be a good one and is coming off a bullet work best of 41 others.

#6 Blinding Light-showed good speed in his debut, opened up a 2-length lead but had to settle for second beaten just a length and a quarter. He drops from that MSW to this MCL, switches to the turf, shows four works over the turf here and is the one to beat.

#2 Rum ‘n Tonic-drops from MSW to MCL for Maker, gets back on the turf after two races on the dirt and should be a decent price.

#4 Rugged Union-finished just a length and ¾ behind our top pick last out and should be close again today.
